Congratulations to all teams and medalists who have qualified for regional play. 

The 2008 Region 1 Class AAA golf tournament will be conducted at Nueva Vista Golf Club April 21-23, both boys and girls.  The boys will play Monday morning and Tuesday morning.  The girls will play Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning.

This website page is designed to assist coaches and players in their plans for the regional tournament.  UIL rules govern all activities concerning this tournament.  If one feels the information on this site conflicts with the rules and instructions of the UIL, it would be in each team's best interest to clarify any question prior to the event.

Tournament Fees:

This year, all teams and medalists will pay one fee for the tournament that will include the tournament fee, one bag of practice balls each day of the event and one golf cart for each team coach each day (parents must rent their own golf cart if one is desired to watch their children play).  Coaches for the medalist pairings will be expected to share seats on carts provided. 

The tournament fee is $50.00 per player.  Please see the UIL Handbook listed on the Odessa College website link listed below for payment information.

Practice Rounds:

One practice round is allowed following the completion of district play.  That practice round may be played any time the course is available for public play from the time all district rounds are over until the first day of regionals. 

Please keep in mind all UIL rules concerning this one practice round - it is our understanding that once that practice round is completed, no competitor may use the course or its practice facilities from that time to the first day of competition.  Again, check the UIL handbook to be certain. 

For teams not able to play a practice round prior to tournament week, the following practice round schedule will apply.  Boys practice rounds will be Sunday afternoon (call for tee times).  The girls' practice round will be a Monday afternoon shotgun start beginning at 3:00PM. 

Fees for the practice rounds are due the day thay are conducted and payable to Nueva Vista Golf Club.  Junior rates of $10.00 are available all day weekdays and on weekends after 1:00 PM.  Weekend morning rounds are available, but at the normal weekend rate of $25.87.  Remember, tax must be charged and added to these fees unless a school representative completes a tax exemption form for their school or district.  That form can be found here.

Call the golf shop at 432-520-0500 to make tee times for your practice round.  Nueva Vista Golf Club normally prohibits minors from renting golf carts, but will waive this rule for practice rounds if desired provided the coach is with the team at all times.  No more than two carts will be available per group on practice rounds (players willl have to trade off - TWO RIDERS ONLY PER CART).  Cart fees are $24.00 per cart.

Spectator Carts for the 3A Regional Tournament

With the increase in the number of medalists playing in this tournament combined with the tremendous increase in the number of spectators desiring a golf cart to watch their children or grandchildren play, there is no way any golf course can accomodate everyone who wants to ride.

We considered bringing in more carts to satisfy the demand, but to what end?  How would the players possibly complete their round with 80 or 120 carts on the course?

We have 60 carts.  A large portion of this number goes to the coach of each team.  Three carts will be kept in reserve for our staff members and the media.

 The rest are available to spectators on a first-come first-served basis.

PRIVATE CARTS ARE NOT ALLOWED.

We understand the desire to see the kids play.  We are parents and grandparents, too.  But please also understand that the first priority of any tournament course is to serve the competitors and coaches.

If necessary, we reserve the right not to allow spectator carts in the future if this matter disrupts our ability to serve the kids playing in this tournament.

Spectator carts rent for $24.00 on Monday, Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday.

Tuesday is going to be a challenge.  We thought boys and girls playing on the same day at the same course on the regional level was a thing of the past.  For 2008, the UIL decided otherwise.  Carts rented on Tuesday morning for the boys' round will be charged $48.00 each.  A refund of $24.00 will be given to those who turn in the cart and cart key no more than 30 minutes after their child has finished play.  It has been our experience that this is the only way to assure some cart availability for the girls' round.
